About The Position

The Department of Corrections, State Correctional Institution at Chester is seeking a highly motivated electrician who enjoys teaching to join our team as a Corrections Electrical Trade Instructor. This position gives you the opportunity to share your trade knowledge and help individuals build practical skills as they work toward a safer and more productive life. This position provides structured classroom and hands-on instruction in the electrical trade for inmates at SCI Chester. Your work will support facility operations while helping learners build practical vocational abilities.

Requirements

  • Five years of experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical wiring, fixtures, and equipment used in buildings; or Completion of an approved apprenticeship in the electrical trade; or An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes one year of journey level work in the electrical trade.
  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • Must meet the PA residency requirement.
  • Must be able to perform essential job functions.
  • Must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Teach electrical trade practices and methods in a structured learning setting
  • Guide inmates through real work assignments involving installation, repair, and maintenance tasks
  • Lead inmate work crews and review completed work for accuracy and safety
  • Issue, track, and account for tools and materials used during training and work assignments, conduct searches as needed
  • Document inmate attendance, progress, and assignment details
  • Ensure safety practices are followed and maintain discipline during all training and work activities
