About The Position

The Corrections Plumbing Trade Instructor with the Department of Corrections offers a meaningful way to guide others while supporting the daily operations of the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Phoenix. This position gives you the chance to share your trade knowledge and help inmates build real skills for the future. Your instruction supports safety, facility upkeep, and long-term growth for those in your classroom. This position provides structured classroom and on-the-job plumbing instruction to inmates at SCI Phoenix, supporting both facility operations and vocational skill building.

Requirements

  • Five years of experience in the inspection, maintenance, repair, assembly, and installation of pipes, fittings, and fixtures used in heating, water, and drainage systems; or Completion of an approved apprenticeship in the plumbing trade; or An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes one year of journey level work in the plumbing trade.
  • Must successfully complete basic training in Elizabethtown, PA.
  • Must meet the PA residency requirement.
  • Must be able to perform essential job functions.
  • Must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Teach plumbing skills, systems, and methods through classroom lessons and hands-on training
  • Direct inmate work crews, assign schedules, and review completed plumbing tasks
  • Issue, track, and account for tools and materials used during training and work assignments
  • Identify needed supplies and submit requests to support plumbing projects
  • Maintain documentation of inmate attendance, progress, and work details
