About The Position

The Cook works in AC&T’s kitchen to prepare food and serve customers promptly and courteously, helping create a positive shopping experience. The role includes cooking, baking, food preparation, catering preparation, dishwashing, kitchen cleanliness, and adherence to food-service regulations and company policies. The posting covers various openings across AC&T’s 17 stores; the listed location is Halfway Travel Center in Hagerstown, Maryland.

Requirements

Be at least 18 years old or have a work permit.
Be able to speak, read, understand, and write English.
Be able to respond to a fire by lifting and moving a 20-pound fire extinguisher.
Be able to tolerate exposure to gasoline fumes and cleaning products.
Be able to enter and work in a 38-degree cooler for up to 15 minutes at a time.
Be willing to work weekends, holidays, and extended hours when necessary.

Nice To Haves

One year of kitchen or cook experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

Maintain proper customer relations and provide courteous service.
Maintain contact with the Store/Kitchen Manager.
Maintain inventory control and vendor control during the shift.
Safeguard monies, equipment, store records, and other assigned company property.
Follow manager-established guidelines that are consistent with company policies, as well as company rules and regulations.
Maintain a clean kitchen according to the standards set by the Store/Kitchen Manager.
Follow state food-service regulations.
Operate the stove, oven, and steamer, including handling large pots and transferring cooked ingredients into smaller pans.
Bake and steam ingredients and remove them from cooking equipment.
Prepare salads, break down products for immediate use, and make products for cold units and catering orders.
Mix cake batter, transport and bake sheet cakes, mix homemade frosting, and frost, slice, and box cakes.
Wash dishes, including handling hot water and detergent and placing dishes above head level.
Perform other tasks and duties as assigned or required.
