About The Position

The Cashier serves customers promptly, courteously, and in a friendly manner to enhance AC&T’s image and make each shopping experience profitable and pleasurable. The posting is intended to fill various openings across AC&T’s 17 store locations. The role maintains customer service, store procedures, inventory, vendor control, and the safekeeping of money, equipment, records, and other assigned company property. The Cashier maintains a clean, well-merchandised store and follows applicable company policies and state and federal requirements for alcohol, tobacco, lottery, and food service. The position is accountable to a supervisor or manager on a shift-to-shift basis and must report emergencies or accidents to the Store Manager immediately. The Cashier does not have authority to set or change prices, change merchandise offerings, make cash expenditures, or enter into obligations on behalf of the company.

Requirements

Be at least 18 years of age or have a work permit.
Speak, read, understand, and write English.
Perform mathematical calculations for making change, completing shift reports, and accounting for product quantities during vendor check-in.
Have sufficient visual sharpness to check customer identification when necessary.
Read and understand operating instructions for electronic cash registers and other equipment.
Lift up to 50 pounds and carry cases of products at least once per shift.
Be able to lift and move a 20-pound fire extinguisher and lift a 20-pound metal plate from an underground storage tank.
Be able to stock shelves and coolers, climb a ladder, bend, sweep and mop, dust shelves, and lift and carry trash containers.
Be able to clean bathrooms, including floors, sinks, and toilets.
Be able to enter and work in a 38-degree cooler for up to 15 minutes at a time.
Be able to communicate by telephone and/or store intercom.
Tolerate exposure to gasoline fumes and cleaning products.
Be willing to work weekends, holidays, and extended hours when necessary.

Responsibilities

Maintain proper customer relations and provide courteous, friendly service.
Maintain contact with the Store Manager and follow authorized store hours.
Follow store procedures and policies, including security, reporting, and check-cashing procedures.
Maintain inventory control.
Safeguard and account for monies, equipment, store records, and other assigned AC&T property.
Maintain vendor control during the shift.
Follow manager-established guidelines that do not conflict with company policies.
Keep the store clean and well merchandised according to the Store Manager’s standards.
Follow state and federal laws concerning alcohol and tobacco sales, lottery ticket sales and redemption, and food service.
Abide by company rules and regulations.
Report emergencies and accidents to the Store Manager immediately.
Stock shelves and coolers; serve food from a food case maintained at a minimum of 140 degrees Fahrenheit.
Perform cleaning duties, including windows, floors, shelves, bathrooms, the parking lot, and surrounding grounds, and remove trash.
