About The Position

The Veterans Canteen Service is hiring a Cook for its Muskogee, Oklahoma VA Medical Center Canteen. The Cook prepares and cooks food items for breakfast and lunch, follows recipes and food labels to ensure accurate preparation and compliance with standards, and maintains kitchen cleanliness and sanitation. The position includes other duties as assigned. A one-year trial period is required as a condition of employment; continued employment after that period depends on written certification that it advances the public interest. Candidates must also meet applicable Selective Service registration and background/security investigation conditions.

Requirements

At least one year of experience in cooking and food safety.
Excellent customer service skills.
Knowledge of measurements and ability to multiply or divide recipes to meet daily needs.
A current, valid REAL ID is required to work at Veterans Canteen Service.
Must be able to stand constantly, walk constantly, and bend frequently.
Must be able to lift or move objects weighing up to 40 pounds without assistance.
Males born after 12/31/1959 must meet Selective Service registration requirements.
Must be subject to a background/security investigation.
Must serve a one-year trial period and receive written certification for continued employment afterward.
