About The Position

CLA is hiring a Controller with retail industry experience for its Client Accounting and Advisory Services (CAAS) practice, based in either the Des Moines or Cedar Rapids, Iowa office. The CAAS team helps clients transform their businesses through a collaborative approach to mitigating risk, overcoming challenges, meeting deadlines, and addressing workforce needs. The Controller serves designated clients and advises them on accounting and finance best practices, while supporting client reporting and customized back-office solutions. The role offers a hybrid and flexible working environment; work at client locations or in the office may be required depending on project needs.

Requirements

Seven years of relevant accounting and/or financial experience.
Aptitude for developing and maintaining thorough working knowledge of accounting software and systems.
Proficiency with applicable software, including Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.

Nice To Haves

Relevant retail industry experience is highly preferred.
QuickBooks experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

Act as the Controller for designated clients.
Serve as a consultant and advisor to clients on best practices for accounting and finance-related engagements.
Mentor staff and senior team members and assist in designing customized back-office solutions for clients.
Prepare and analyze client financial statements and make recommendations.
Prepare management reporting packages to help management teams and boards understand financial results.
Develop industry expertise and attend industry-leading events and trainings.
Maintain knowledge of client organizational policies and procedures, federal and state policies and directives, and current accounting standards.
