About The Position

CLA is hiring a Controller with retail industry experience for its Client Accounting and Advisory Services (CAAS) practice, based in either Des Moines or Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The CAAS team helps clients transform their businesses through a collaborative approach to mitigating risk, overcoming challenges, meeting deadlines, and addressing workforce needs. The role provides controllership, accounting and finance advisory, financial reporting, and customized back-office support to clients. The position has a hybrid and flexible working environment, with work at client locations or in an office depending on project needs, and collaboration with other CLA team members.

Requirements

At least 7 years of relevant accounting and/or financial experience.
Aptitude for developing and maintaining a thorough working knowledge of accounting software and systems.
Proficiency with applicable software, including Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.

Nice To Haves

Relevant experience in the retail industry is highly preferred.
QuickBooks experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

Act as the Controller for designated clients.
Advise clients on best practices for accounting and finance-related engagements.
Mentor staff and senior team members and help design customized back-office solutions for clients.
Prepare and analyze client financial statements and make recommendations.
Prepare management reporting packages to help management teams and boards understand financial results.
Develop industry expertise and attend industry-leading events and trainings.
Maintain knowledge of client organizational policies and procedures, federal and state policies and directives, and current accounting standards.
