About The Position

Inland Empire Paper Company, operating in Millwood, Washington, since 1911, strives to be the industry-leading specialty paper supplier through highly efficient production methods, first-in-class customer service, and market-defining employee capabilities. IEP owns and operates over 121,000 acres of timberland located in northern Idaho and eastern Washington. IEP is seeking a hands-on Controller to ensure accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, cost accounting integrity, inventory valuation accuracy, and compliance with accounting standards and company policies. This role will partner closely with operations, supply chain, and senior leadership to support strategic decision-making and drive operational efficiency.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • At least ten (10) years of progressive accounting or finance experience within a manufacturing industry or related field preferred.
  • Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) experience.
  • Five (5) to Seven (7) years of supervisory experience.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • High level of integrity to ensure accurate reporting of financial data.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) preferred but not required.
  • JD Edwards (JDE) is preferred.
  • QuickBooks Online experience preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Manage standard costing, job costing, and inventory accounting processes.
  • Analyze manufacturing variances, including labor, material, overhead, scrap, and production efficiencies.
  • Monitor inventory controls, including cycle counts and physical inventories.
  • Partner with operations to monitor production costs and improve profitability.
  • Support ERP system maintenance and manufacturing financial reporting enhancements.
  • Lead annual budgeting and periodic forecasting processes.
  • Provide financial analysis to support operational and strategic initiatives.
  • Monitor cash flow, capital expenditures, and working capital performance.
  • Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process.
  • Maintain the general ledger, account reconciliations, journal entries, and supporting schedules.
  • Prepare and review financial statements, management reports, and variance analyses.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable regulator requirements.
  • Develop and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Manage external audits and coordinate with auditors and tax advisors.
  • Manage cash flow forecasting, working capital, and banking relationships.
  • Track key performance indicators (KPI) and provide actionable recommendations.
  • Supervise and mentor daily accounting operations, including AP, AR, payroll, and staff accounting functions.
  • Establish performance goals and support employee development.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with production, procurement, engineering, HR, customer service, and senior leadership.
  • Promote process improvement and accountability throughout the organization.
