Content Strategist

$75,000 - $85,000Onsite

About The Position

Vladimir Jones is an independent, full-service advertising agency founded in 1970, with offices in Colorado Springs and Denver. Our work starts with how people actually think and behave and ends with results our clients can measure. At V+J, the Consumer Insight & Strategy team is focused on uncovering consumer motivations, behaviors, and engagements to create brand connections for our clients that don’t currently exist. Beyond being the voice of the consumer in the agency process, the Consumer Insight & Strategy team is dedicated to helping our work connect more meaningfully—with both clients and consumers—through personal relevance and impact that extends beyond the transaction. The team is responsible for uncovering key strategic insights—drawn from primary and secondary research, data, and cultural engagement—to underpin advertising ideas and inform broader brand strategies that achieve client business goals. The Content Strategist turns brand strategy into content systems that work: what we say, where we say it, to whom, how often, and how we know it worked. You'll sit between our Insight & Strategy, Creative, Media, and Account teams. You'll translate positioning and audience insight into content architectures, editorial plans, and channel playbooks that creative teams can execute and clients can measure. This role is for someone who thinks like a strategist, writes like a pro, and is comfortable being accountable for performance.

Requirements

  • Approximately 4+ years of relevant experience in content strategy, content marketing, editorial, digital strategy, or a related field; agency experience preferred.
  • A portfolio showing strategic thinking, not just finished pieces—including frameworks, plans, audits, and the results they drove.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills across formats and voices.
  • Experience with CMS platforms, social sentiment and listening platforms (such as Meltwater, Cision, or Sprout Social), and content/project management tools.
  • Ability to manage multiple clients and deadlines without losing quality.
  • Comfort translating research and data into clear, plain-language recommendations.
  • A bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, journalism, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Content Tech & Analytics: Hands-on experience with CMS platforms, social listening tools, SEO software (e.g., Semrush, Ahrefs), and web analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics, Looker).
  • AI Tool Fluency: Experience using generative AI tools for research synthesis, ideation, content development, and workflow efficiency, with an understanding of responsible use, data privacy, and human review.
  • Testing & Optimization: Familiarity with A/B testing methodologies, conversion rate optimization (CRO) principles, and customer journey mapping software.
  • Production Management: Solid understanding of video pre-production processes, visual shot-list development, and digital asset management systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual English/Spanish content experience.
  • Familiarity with accessibility standards (WCAG) and plain-language principles.
  • A sense of optimism that is only matched by your curiosity about the world around you.
  • A sense of urgency in getting work completed and an ability to work under tight deadlines.
  • A love of the advertising industry and a desire to create exceptional work that solves business issues.

Responsibilities

  • Build content strategies from the brief up. Turn brand positioning, message hierarchies, and audience research into content pillars, audience-by-journey-stage maps, and channel roles for each client.
  • Own editorial planning. Build and manage content calendars across owned, earned, and social channels, balancing always-on content with campaign moments.
  • Audit and diagnose. Conduct content audits, competitive content reviews, and gap analyses. Use them to create clear recommendations, not just inventories.
  • Write and shape content. Draft and edit web, social, email, blog, and long-form content. Guide copywriters and designers on intent, audience, and format.
  • Connect content to performance. Define KPIs for content programs, partner with Media and Analytics on measurement, and report what's working, what isn't, and what we're changing.
  • Lead search and discoverability thinking. Apply SEO fundamentals and adapt to AI-driven search so clients' content gets found by both people and answer engines.
  • Develop voice and governance. Create and maintain brand voice guidelines, messaging frameworks, and content governance models that client teams can actually use.
  • Present and persuade. Present content strategies and results to clients with clarity and a point of view, including presentations to senior stakeholders.
  • Use AI responsibly. Apply generative AI tools in research, ideation, drafting, and workflow within agency and client data policies, with human judgment applied to every output.
