About The Position

The Construction Technologies Lead serves as Hunt Electric’s subject matter expert for Trimble layout technologies and emerging field technologies. The role bridges project design and field installation, supporting precision from preconstruction through final installation. The position manages the end-to-end BIM-to-Field process, including Trimble equipment inventory, training programs, Drone Deploy implementation, and field support for local and national projects. The role provides Trimble training and field support; integrates BIM models with field layout; manages equipment, inventory, calibration, software licensing, and service; oversees as-built workflows and documentation; and implements Drone Deploy and other emerging technologies. The position also works with project teams, field electricians, apprentices, project managers, design teams, and clients to encourage technology adoption and accurate project delivery. Travel to project sites locally and nationally may be required, up to 40%.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of hands-on Trimble experience, including Robotic Total Stations, Field Link, Business Center, and GPS.
  • At least 3 years of electrical field experience in an IBEW or similar commercial/industrial electrical construction environment.

  • Ability to sit and stand frequently and occasionally bend, kneel, reach, stoop, crouch, and lift up to 10 pounds; able to lift files and open file cabinets.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Trimble X7 or X9 3D laser scanners and RealWorks registration processing software.
  • Familiarity with Drone Deploy or similar drone/aerial imaging platforms.
  • Understanding of construction scheduling principles, including CPM scheduling, lookaheads, and pull planning.
  • Experience training, mentoring, or formally teaching technical subject matter.
  • Demonstrated leadership in formal or informal team settings.
  • Problem-solving mindset with a track record of proactive issue resolution and process improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct on-site Trimble training for local and national projects during startup, including multi-day field support for equipment setup, calibration, and layout processes.
  • Train field electricians and apprentices to use Trimble Field Link tablets.
  • Operate Robotic Total Stations, GPS units, and 3D laser scanners for underground, wall rough-in, ceiling hanger, and equipment pad layouts.
  • Schedule and monitor Trimble implementation through regular check-ins and follow-ups to support layout accuracy and execution.
  • Analyze construction drawings and BIM models and create stakeout points in Trimble Business Center.
  • Coordinate information flow between design teams and field foremen so BIM models are actionable in the field.
  • Generate point data for prefabrication and identify potential model-to-field clashes using Trimble 3D scanning.
  • Use Trimble Field Link to support accurate BIM-to-Field layout and reduce errors and rework.
  • Organize and track Trimble equipment deployed to and returned from project sites; assess needs and procure replacement equipment.
  • Maintain equipment calibration, software licenses, and firmware updates; manage shop check-in/check-out, service records, and repairs.
  • Develop as-built management plans, standardized naming structures, and workflows between VDC and field teams.
  • Use Trimble 3D scanning and RealWorks to capture as-built conditions, coordinate data collection at appropriate project phases, and process and deliver final documentation.
  • Create Drone Deploy projects for aerial site documentation and progress tracking; educate project managers on its benefits and return on investment.
  • Travel to project sites as needed to establish Drone Deploy workflows and provide hands-on training.
  • Research, evaluate, recommend, and pilot emerging field technologies, measuring productivity gains before broader implementation.
  • Take ownership of technology implementation and project outcomes, proactively resolve issues, and promote best practices and adoption.
  • Communicate professionally with clients and field teams, translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences, and collaborate to resolve disagreements.
