About The Position

Rio Tinto is seeking a Project Planning Advisor to support the effective execution of structuring projects across the SLSJ (Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean) facilities. Reporting to the Project Controls Team Lead, you will be responsible for defining, implementing, and overseeing project planning processes across the portfolio to ensure the predictability and competitiveness of portfolio projects. Requirements

  • A commitment to your safety and that of your team (first point)
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, project management, administration, or any equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, including project planning experience in a heavy industrial environment.
  • Influence and collaboration skills, based on listening and understanding project issues, enabling teams and the organization to consistently apply best practices in project planning, in a structuring and non-hierarchical manner.
  • Mastery of project planning concepts and governance practices, change management, risk management, progress management (CPI, SPI), planning, estimation, procurement, etc.
  • Knowledge of SAP, PowerBi tools, and project planning/control tools (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project).
  • Excellent communication and change management skills.
  • Ability to develop and control project schedules of various sizes/complexities and across different phases.
  • Mastery of French and English, both oral and written.
  • Rio Tinto is a global company, and the functions of this position require daily collaboration with colleagues, teams, or partners based outside of Quebec.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, structure, and deploy high-level planning service offerings for all portfolio projects.
  • Define, implement, and maintain high-performing project planning tools, processes, and systems to ensure better predictability, increased risk control, and sustainable schedule competitiveness.
  • Plan and control plant project schedules.
  • Develop, track, and analyze performance indicators (KPIs) related to the effectiveness of high-level project planning across the portfolio; actively contribute to project reviews, performance analyses, and recommendations for corrective actions.
  • Mobilize and develop teams with an approach aligned with the company's values and objectives.
  • Optimize the quality and reliability of plant project schedules in close collaboration with the portfolio management group and key stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain organizational skills in plant project planning, including the establishment, evolution, and application of standards, best practices, and repositories adapted to the company's reality.
  • Ensure effective collaboration and rigorous performance management with external partners involved in project planning.
  • Guarantee proactive and rigorous control of the project portfolio schedules while fostering a culture of transparency, accountability, and decision-making based on reliable data.
  • Collaborate closely with internal teams (major project planning, cost control, project services, operations, engineering, finance, procurement, etc.) to ensure smooth and consistent integration of planning practices and systems across the organization.
