About The Position

Rio Tinto is seeking a Senior Project Controls Advisor to support the effective execution of structuring projects across the SLSJ (Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean) facilities. Reporting to the Project Controls Team Lead, you will be responsible for defining, implementing, and overseeing the application of cost control processes to ensure the predictability and competitiveness of the portfolio's projects.

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, project management, administration, or any equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, including project control experience in a heavy industrial environment.
  • Ability to influence and collaborate, based on listening and understanding project issues, enabling the support of teams and the organization towards the consistent application of best practices in project control, in a structuring and non-hierarchical manner.
  • Mastery of project control concepts and governance practices, change management, risk management, progress management (CPI, SPI), planning, estimation, procurement, etc.
  • Knowledge of SAP, PowerBi, and project planning/control tools (e.g., Primavera, MS Project).
  • Excellent communication and change management skills.
  • Ability to apply project control for different scopes/complexities and across different phases.
  • Mastery of French and English, both spoken and written.
  • Rio Tinto is a global company, and the functions of this position require daily collaboration with colleagues, teams, or partners based outside of Quebec.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, structure, and deploy the integrated project cost control service offering.
  • Define, implement, and maintain high-performing project control tools, processes, and systems to ensure better predictability, increased risk management, and sustainable cost competitiveness.
  • Control the costs of certain major strategic projects for the organization.
  • Develop, monitor, and analyze performance indicators (KPIs) related to project control effectiveness; actively contribute to project reviews, performance analyses, and recommendations for corrective actions.
  • Mobilize and develop teams, project controllers, and cost analysts, with an approach aligned with the company's values and objectives.
  • Optimize the quality and reliability of budget forecasts, in close collaboration with the portfolio management group and key stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain organizational competencies in project control, including the establishment, evolution, and application of standards, best practices, and repositories adapted to the company's reality.
  • Ensure effective collaboration and rigorous performance management with external partners involved in project control.
  • Guarantee proactive and rigorous project control, while fostering a culture of transparency, accountability, and decision-making based on reliable data.
  • Collaborate closely with internal teams (planning, project services, operations, engineering, finance, procurement, etc.) to ensure smooth and coherent integration of project control practices and systems across the organization.
