About The Position

Reporting to the Director, Culture of Caring, the Community Services Manager oversees SCFSS’s Community Services Department, which includes the Community Prevention Team, Community Capacity Team, and Group Programs Team. This leadership role ensures that SCFSS supports each Member Community in building capacity to implement their own localized prevention programs while maintaining high‑quality internal programming where community capacity is still emerging. Rooted in the belief that communities are the experts of themselves, this role emphasizes mentorship, community‑driven development, and the transition of prevention responsibilities back to local leadership. As a key member of SCFSS, the Manager champions our collective Call to Action by advancing SCFSS’s four strategic directions and promoting Elder‑guided, culturally grounded, community‑led approaches to wellness.

Requirements

  • Ability to lead, mentor, and support multidisciplinary teams across community prevention, capacity development, and group‑based programming
  • Strong skills in planning, coordinating, and evaluating culturally grounded community programs and services
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate nłeʔkepmx and syilx values, cultural practices, and Elder‑guided approaches into prevention and community wellness initiatives
  • Proven ability to build and sustain strong relationships with Member Communities, Elders, partners, and external service providers
  • Clear Criminal Record check and Ministry of Children and Family Development Prior Contact Check required before commencement of employment.
  • Valid Class 5 BC driver’s license without restrictions.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and oversight of Community Prevention, Community Capacity, and Group Programs teams
  • Ensure prevention programs are Elder‑guided, culturally grounded, and aligned with SCFSS’s strategic directions
  • Support the planning, implementation, and monitoring of community‑based prevention programs and services
  • Facilitate, guide, and support prevention initiatives that build awareness of governance, rights, jurisdictions, and responsibilities related to child and family wellness
  • Engage and collaborate with Member Communities to strengthen capacity for local program delivery
  • Lead mentorship and hands‑on support to transition prevention responsibilities back to local community leadership
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with Member Communities, urban Indigenous groups, Elders, partners, and service providers
  • Facilitate Elder‑informed decision‑making and ensure Elders’ knowledge is ethically integrated into programming
  • Promote language revitalization by embedding nłeʔkepmxcin and nsylixcen across organizational practices
  • Ensure programs, services, and interactions reflect syilx and nłeʔkepmx values, protocols, and trauma‑informed approaches
  • Create and maintain effective strategic relationships with partner organizations and community resources
  • Provide guidance, supervision, coaching, and mentorship to departmental staff to support growth and performance
  • Manage and monitor departmental budgets and ensure compliance with financial and funding requirements
  • Oversee monitoring and evaluation of practices to ensure compliance with SCFSS policies and cultural standards
  • Ensure security and confidentiality of records and data in compliance with FOIPPA and SCFSS policies
  • Ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) policies and procedures
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for the Director and other governing bodies
  • Support generation and maintenance of monthly, quarterly, and annual statistics and reports
  • Lead or participate in community events, committees, working groups, and organizational initiatives
  • Participate in culturally grounded recruitment, onboarding, and professional development for departmental staff
  • Develop, monitor, and update an annual Personal Development Plan and Individual Work Plan aligned with SCFSS’s strategic priorities
