About The Position

The Housing Opportunities Commission of Montgomery County (HOC) is seeking a Community Engagement Supervisor to join the Resident Services team. This role involves directly supervising Community Engagement Specialists and Community Aides, overseeing their day-to-day efforts, analyzing performance, and providing guidance and support. The supervisor will also assist with implementing community engagement strategies and partnerships. This is a hybrid position, with the possibility of remote work after a 6-month probation period.

Requirements

  • At least five (5) years of substantial and demonstrable experience in the field of Social Work, Social Services, Human Services, or a related field
  • Capacity to effectively lead and supervise a team
  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Human Services, Psychology, Sociology or a related field
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, cultural humility, and the ability to engage sensitively and constructively with department and agency leadership
  • Exceptional oral communication skills including comfort with speaking publicly in a variety of settings and ability to articulate complex ideas clearly and persuasively
  • Effective written communication skills including experience with preparing reports, briefings, and other written content
  • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines and exercise good judgment
  • Knowledge of program development, implementation and evaluation
  • Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to coach and guide staff
  • Considerable knowledge of Social Work/Social Service practices and programs
  • Knowledge of subsidized housing programs
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

Responsibilities

  • Directly supervise nine (9) Community Engagement Specialists and four (4) Community Aides
  • Oversee staff’s day-to-day efforts and analyze staff’s performance regularly to ensure level of effort meets the standards established for the division
  • Provide the guidance, encouragement, and tools needed for staff to excel in their roles
  • Conduct site visits to meet with staff and observe work performance
  • Support staff with integrating the Cradle-to-Career and Whole Family Approach in their daily work ensuring that families are being served proficiently
  • Perform administrative duties such as approval of timecards, completion of performance evaluations, etc.
  • Assist the Community Engagement Manager with implementing community engagement strategies, programs, and special initiatives
  • Assist the Community Engagement Manager with partnerships, including facilitating agreements and other related paperwork; as well as partner meetings
