About The Position

The City of Missouri City, proudly known as the “Show Me City,” is seeking a qualified candidate for a full-time Telecommunications Supervisor position within the City of Missouri City’s Police Department. This individual is responsible for supervising the dispatch of police, fire, and other personnel to emergency and non-emergency calls for service within the city limits and extraterritorial jurisdiction. Additional duties include operating state and nationwide computer systems, maintaining records, logs, and filing systems, interfacing with other City employees and citizens, and providing telecommunications training services.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Minimum of three (3) years with Missouri City Police Department in dispatch.
  • One (1) year of supervisory or lead experience preferred
  • Must possess or be able to obtain required certifications for public safety communications: Telecommunicator Certification (TCOLE)
  • Knowledge of Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems and public safety radio communications
  • Familiarity with Texas Crime Information Center (TCIC), National Crime Information Center (NCIC), and TLETS systems preferred
  • Ability to operate multi-line telephone systems, TDD/TTY equipment, and other emergency communications tools
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work under pressure in emergency situations and make sound decisions quickly
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and be subject to 24-hour recall
  • Must successfully pass background check, polygraph, and any other required pre-employment screenings

  • Familiarity with Texas Crime Information Center (TCIC), National Crime Information Center (NCIC), and TLETS systems preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assists citizens by gathering information using multi-channel phone systems, TDD/TTY equipment, and other communications systems
  • Answers 911 and non-emergency calls for Police, Fire, EMS, and other services
  • Utilizes Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems to enter, retrieve, and process call information
  • Processes and routes calls in accordance with departmental policies and procedures
  • Maintains continuous radio communications with Police and Fire personnel
  • Relays and broadcasts critical information based on service needs and call priority
  • Supervises telecommunications personnel by establishing performance goals, evaluations, and expectations
  • Enforces departmental policies, procedures, and rules
  • Issues written and verbal commendations and disciplinary actions as appropriate
  • Communicates procedural updates and organizational changes to staff
  • Prepares and submits weekly operational reports
  • Maintains employee timesheets, schedules, and attendance records
  • Drafts memos and written correspondence
  • Reports equipment malfunctions and orders supplies as needed
  • Maintains and updates procedural manuals and documentation
  • Enters and maintains accurate data within departmental systems
  • Provides information and assistance to the public and other City departments
  • Processes faxed and electronic documents as required
  • Researches and coordinates continuing education opportunities for staff
  • Oversees new hire training programs and instructional materials
  • Maintains accurate training records and documentation
  • Provides supervisory support to the Telecommunications Division
  • Assists with administrative functions related to Texas Crime Information Center (TCIC) and TDD/TTY systems
  • Conducts monthly quality assurance reviews of dispatch operations
  • Tracks, analyzes, and prepares reports on quality assurance data
  • Assists the Dispatch Manager with validations and assigned directives
  • Serves as Terminal Agency Coordinator in the absence of the Dispatch Manager for TLETS and TCIC/NCIC systems
  • Represents the City in coordination with the Greater Harris County 9-1-1 Emergency Network in the absence of the Dispatch Manager
  • Assists with Emergency Management operations during disasters and critical incidents
  • Must be able to work any shift, including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Subject to 24-hour recall
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the Dispatch Center
