About The Position

FusionIRX is seeking a highly experienced Commissioning Life Safety Engineer to serve as the Lead Subject Matter Expert (SME) for life safety systems commissioning on a large-scale semiconductor fabrication construction project. This leadership role provides technical direction and oversight for commissioning, testing, integration, and operational readiness of life safety systems in a complex, schedule-driven environment. The position coordinates contractors, engineering disciplines, commissioning activities, and owner representatives to achieve successful system acceptance and facility turnover.

Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in life safety engineering, construction, commissioning, testing, or facility startup.
  • Demonstrated experience as a Lead Engineer, Commissioning Lead, or Subject Matter Expert on large-scale industrial, advanced manufacturing, or mission-critical construction projects.
  • Extensive technical knowledge of fire alarm systems, emergency communications, smoke control, emergency power interfaces, and integrated life safety functionality.
  • Strong understanding of applicable NFPA standards, including NFPA 72, NFPA 101, and NFPA 70, and relevant building and fire codes.
  • Experience developing and executing commissioning procedures, functional performance testing, and integrated systems testing.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex system interfaces and resolve multidisciplinary technical challenges.
  • Proficiency interpreting engineering drawings, control schematics, cause-and-effect matrices, and sequence-of-operations documentation.
  • Experience coordinating contractors, equipment vendors, engineering teams, and owner representatives.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and technical documentation skills.
  • Ability to independently manage commissioning priorities and meet demanding project milestones.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous commissioning experience on semiconductor fabrication facilities, cleanroom environments, or high-tech advanced manufacturing projects.
  • Familiarity with NFPA 318, SEMI S2, and semiconductor-specific life safety and hazardous production material requirements.
  • Experience integrating fire alarm systems with hazardous gas monitoring, emergency ventilation, process equipment shutdown, and facility control systems.
  • Experience supporting AHJ inspections, integrated testing, system acceptance, and operational turnover.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license, relevant NICET certification, or recognized commissioning certification.
  • Familiarity with CxAlloy, Procore, Bluebeam, or similar construction and commissioning management platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, plan, coordinate, and oversee life safety systems commissioning throughout the semiconductor fabrication facility.
  • Manage commissioning and functional verification of fire alarm detection, notification, and monitoring; emergency communication and mass notification; emergency lighting, exit signage, and egress; smoke control and evacuation; fire alarm interfaces with sprinkler monitoring and fire suppression; emergency power interfaces; access control and emergency door release; hazardous gas detection and notification; and emergency shutdown sequences and interlocks.
  • Develop, review, and approve commissioning plans, testing procedures, functional performance test scripts, and acceptance criteria.
  • Review engineering drawings, control diagrams, equipment submittals, sequences of operation, and project specifications for commissioning readiness.
  • Lead integrated systems testing to verify communication, sequencing, and operation of interconnected systems under normal and emergency conditions.
  • Oversee and witness Factory Acceptance Testing, Site Acceptance Testing, and functional performance testing as required.
  • Verify compliance with applicable NFPA standards, building and fire codes, OSHA requirements, local Authority Having Jurisdiction requirements, and client specifications.
  • Coordinate with electrical, mechanical, instrumentation and controls, fire protection, process systems, and facility operations teams to ensure proper integration.
  • Identify commissioning deficiencies, troubleshoot system failures, and lead corrective actions to achieve system acceptance.
  • Coordinate testing and inspections with the AHJ, fire marshal, contractors, and owner representatives.
  • Track commissioning milestones, test results, outstanding deficiencies, and system turnover readiness.
  • Review and validate test reports, deficiency logs, punch lists, as-built drawings, and final turnover packages.
  • Ensure compliance with site safety requirements, including Lockout/Tagout, electrical safety procedures, and controlled testing protocols.
  • Provide technical direction, leadership, and mentorship to commissioning engineers, technicians, and supporting contractors.
  • Support final system acceptance, owner training, operational readiness, and facility turnover.
