About The Position

FusionIRX is seeking a highly experienced Commissioning Life Safety Engineer to serve as the Lead Subject Matter Expert (SME), providing technical leadership and oversight of life safety systems commissioning for a large-scale semiconductor fabrication construction project. The role calls for extensive knowledge of integrated life safety systems, emergency response functionality, regulatory compliance, and operational readiness in complex industrial or mission-critical facilities. It involves coordinating contractors, engineering disciplines, and commissioning activities in a fast-paced, schedule-driven construction environment. The engineer will lead commissioning and functional verification for systems including fire alarm detection, notification and monitoring; emergency communications and mass notification; emergency lighting, exit signage and egress; smoke control; fire alarm interfaces with suppression and sprinkler monitoring; emergency power; access control and emergency door release; hazardous gas detection and notification; and emergency shutdown sequences and interlocks. The role also supports system acceptance, owner training, operational readiness, and facility turnover. FusionIRX emphasizes technical excellence, leadership, integrity, ethical conduct, collaboration, accountability, mutual respect, and treating everyone with dignity and respect.

Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in life safety engineering, construction, commissioning, testing, or facility startup.
  • Demonstrated experience as a Lead Engineer, Commissioning Lead, or Subject Matter Expert on large-scale industrial, advanced manufacturing, or mission-critical construction projects.
  • Extensive technical knowledge of fire alarm systems, emergency communications, smoke control, emergency power interfaces, and integrated life safety functionality.
  • Strong understanding of applicable NFPA standards, including NFPA 72, NFPA 101, and NFPA 70, and relevant building and fire codes.
  • Experience developing and executing commissioning procedures, functional performance testing, and integrated systems testing.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot complex system interfaces and resolve multidisciplinary technical challenges.
  • Proficiency interpreting engineering drawings, control schematics, cause-and-effect matrices, and sequence-of-operations documentation.
  • Experience coordinating contractors, equipment vendors, engineering teams, and owner representatives.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and technical documentation skills.
  • Ability to independently manage commissioning priorities and meet demanding project milestones.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous commissioning experience in semiconductor fabrication facilities, cleanroom environments, or high-tech advanced manufacturing projects.
  • Familiarity with NFPA 318, SEMI S2, and semiconductor-specific life safety and hazardous production material requirements.
  • Experience integrating fire alarm systems with hazardous gas monitoring, emergency ventilation, process equipment shutdown, and facility control systems.
  • Experience supporting AHJ inspections, integrated testing, system acceptance, and operational turnover.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license, relevant NICET certification, or recognized commissioning certification.
  • Familiarity with CxAlloy, Procore, Bluebeam, or similar construction and commissioning management platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, plan, coordinate, and oversee life safety systems commissioning throughout the semiconductor fabrication facility.
  • Manage commissioning and functional verification of fire alarm, emergency communication, emergency lighting and egress, smoke control, fire protection, emergency power, access control, hazardous gas detection, and emergency shutdown systems and interfaces.
  • Develop, review, and approve commissioning plans, testing procedures, functional performance test scripts, and acceptance criteria.
  • Review engineering drawings, control diagrams, equipment submittals, sequence-of-operations documents, and project specifications for commissioning readiness.
  • Lead integrated systems testing to verify communication, sequencing, and operation of interconnected life safety systems under normal and emergency conditions.
  • Oversee and witness Factory Acceptance Testing, Site Acceptance Testing, and functional performance testing as required.
  • Verify compliance with applicable NFPA standards, building and fire codes, OSHA requirements, AHJ requirements, and client-specific specifications.
  • Coordinate with electrical, mechanical, instrumentation and controls, fire protection, process systems, and facility operations teams to integrate life safety infrastructure.
  • Identify commissioning deficiencies, troubleshoot system failures, and lead corrective actions to achieve system acceptance.
  • Coordinate testing and inspections with the AHJ, fire marshal, contractors, and owner representatives.
  • Track commissioning milestones, test results, outstanding deficiencies, and system turnover readiness.
  • Review and validate commissioning documentation, including test reports, deficiency logs, punch lists, as-built drawings, and final turnover packages.
  • Ensure compliance with site safety requirements, including Lockout/Tagout, electrical safety procedures, and controlled testing protocols.
  • Provide technical direction, leadership, and mentorship to commissioning engineers, technicians, and supporting contractors.
  • Support final system acceptance, owner training, operational readiness, and facility turnover.
