About The Position

Develop sales marketing plans and place eligible commercial lines accounts per carrier guidelines. Perform annual review and risk exposure analysis of renewal policies for proper coverage, incorporating information obtained from client. Assist clients with claim inquiries and provide important first steps when they report claim initially. Discuss and review exposures with new clients by performing a needs analysis. Inspect premises when applicable to determine eligibility and any deficiencies that might impair the ability to properly place insurance coverage for the client. Document new business discussions with client and make certain file is complete. Maintain client files and ensure proper documentation of any coverage discussions and proposed policy changes. Maintain control of renewal expiration lists, binders, and any aged receivables in accordance with agency guidelines. Respond to client inquiries, incoming e-mail, mail, and company requests on a timely basis. Participate in courses for insurance/sales skills. Maintain current knowledge of underwriting requirements of carriers and establish a relationship with carrier underwriters. Keep current with industry trends by reading appropriate journals and company bulletins. Incidental personal lines sales are permitted. Other tasks as assigned. Participate in any special projects at management’s request. Provide new business sales to continue to add and develop new clients to the agency. In addition, provide assistance to the Agency commercial lines clients to ensure they maintain confidence in the Agency and demonstrate it is operating for their benefit.

Requirements

  • Appropriate State license(s).
  • Extensive knowledge of all lines of commercial insurance, including sophisticated and less common coverages, especially those products represented through agency.
  • Thorough knowledge of brokerage operations including claims handling, procedures, personal lines rating, agency management system, and applicable insurance laws/codes.
  • Experience and expertise in operating in electronic environment; excellent automation skills, Outlook, Word, document management software, carrier proprietary systems, and phone systems.
  • Familiarity with risk assessment and risk management techniques.
  • Excellent time management, organizational and verbal and written communication skills.
  • High degree of self-motivation and self-direction.
  • Familiarity with inspection of risks to make certain they meet insurance carrier eligibility guidelines.
  • Prior 3 years’ insurance brokerage or equivalent experience, or 3 years prior sales experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of CIC or CISR designation recommended.

  • Develop marketing strategies and goals.
  • Answer phone or electronic correspondence from clients to respond on a timely basis.
  • Develop client relationship by reviewing their insurance program, making recommendations and obtaining various options at their request.
  • Take claim reports from clients and proceed with reporting to the insurance carrier.
  • Provide basic guidance to the client as to the next steps in the claim process.
  • In event of a major or severe claim, notify management of the loss.
  • Document client conversations on the agency management system with details of the specifics as to the nature of the conversation and resolution.
  • Attach appropriate documentation to the client’s electronic file.
  • Cross sell other lines of products or refer the client to the personal lines producer to discuss additional needs if applicable.
  • Provide proper directions to the personal lines account manager with regard to endorsements and obtain the appropriate signatures as needed.
  • Review renewal expiration list for potential remarketing of accounts and account rounding opportunities.
  • Perform rewrites of in-force policies when applicable.
  • Review policy endorsements for accuracy once received from the insurance carrier.
  • Compare issued policies to requested coverage for the application.
  • Respond to underwriting inquiries on new and renewal accounts.
