Coffee Shop Barista
About The Position
As a Barista at Hy-Vee, you will provide friendly customer service, prepare beverages, keep the coffee shop stocked and clean, and help ensure customers receive what they need. The role involves working in a fast-paced store coffee shop, connecting with customers, and collaborating with teammates. Prior experience is not required; training and support are provided. The position receives direction and support from the Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Managers of Store Operations, Perishables, and Health Wellness Home, the Food Service Director, and the Coffee Shop Department Manager. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen.
Requirements
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Basic math skills, including simple addition, subtraction, counting, and recording.
- Ability to communicate clearly and helpfully with customers and teammates.
- Ability to stay organized and keep up with the pace of a busy coffee shop environment.
- Less than a high school diploma or equivalent accepted.
- Frequently stand and walk throughout a shift.
- Ability to perform repetitive standing, walking, reaching, and bending associated with order fulfillment, point-of-sale transactions, and cleaning and sanitation duties.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen is required.

- Up to six months of similar or related work experience preferred.
Responsibilities
- Greet customers warmly and provide outstanding service.
- Take customer orders at the counter and over the phone, help customers find products, and answer questions.
- Prepare and replenish coffee shop products throughout the shift.
- Monitor product freshness and appearance, and follow or develop a production list to meet daily needs.
- Handle food safely and keep the work area clean, neat, and in accordance with department standards.
- Check in products, put products away, and review invoices as needed.
- Operate the department register and process payments where applicable.
- Remove trash promptly and maintain a tidy department.
- Work with teammates to provide a smooth, positive customer experience.
- Follow Hy-Vee's dress code, hygiene standards, and company policies.
- Assist in other store areas and take on special projects as needed.
