Coffee Shop Barista
About The Position
As a Barista at Hy-Vee, you will serve customers, prepare beverages, keep the coffee shop stocked and clean, and help customers find the products they need. The role suits someone who enjoys connecting with people, working in a fast-paced environment, and contributing to a team. Prior experience is not required; training and support are provided. The position is performed in a store coffee shop environment, where employees manage deadlines and multiple priorities. The work may involve noise, moving equipment, cleaning chemicals or solvents, electrical shock hazards, and temperature extremes. Safety training is provided. Employment is contingent upon successfully completing a pre-employment drug screen.
Requirements
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Basic math skills, including simple addition, subtraction, counting, and recording.
- Clear, friendly communication with customers and teammates.
- Ability to stay organized and keep pace in a busy coffee shop environment.
- Less than a high school diploma or equivalent is accepted.
Nice To Haves
- Up to six months of similar or related work experience is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Greet customers warmly and provide friendly, helpful service.
- Take customer orders at the counter and over the phone, help customers find products, and answer questions.
- Prepare and replenish coffee shop products as needed.
- Monitor product freshness and appearance and follow or develop a production list to anticipate daily needs.
- Handle food safely and keep the work area clean, neat, and up to department standards.
- Check in and put away products and review invoices as needed.
- Operate the department register and process payments where applicable.
- Remove trash promptly and maintain a tidy department.
- Work with teammates to provide a smooth, positive customer experience.
- Follow the company dress code, hygiene standards, and policies.
- Assist in other store areas and take on special projects as needed.
