Coffee Shop Barista
About The Position
As a Barista at Hy-Vee, you will provide friendly customer service while preparing beverages, keeping the coffee shop stocked and clean, and ensuring customers receive the products they need. The role is suited to someone who enjoys connecting with people, working in a fast-paced environment, and contributing to a team. Duties include taking customer orders in person and by phone, answering questions, preparing and replenishing products, monitoring freshness and appearance, handling food safely, checking in products and reviewing invoices, processing payments, removing trash, and maintaining the department. You will follow company policies, dress code, and hygiene standards, and may assist in other store areas or special projects. Training and support are provided. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen.
Requirements
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Basic math skills for addition, subtraction, counting, and recording.
- Ability to communicate clearly and helpfully with customers and teammates.
- Ability to stay organized and keep pace in a busy coffee shop environment.
- Less than a high school diploma or equivalent is accepted.
- Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen.
Nice To Haves
- Up to six months of similar or related work experience is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Greet customers and provide helpful, friendly service.
- Take customer orders at the counter and over the phone, help customers find products, and answer questions.
- Prepare and replenish coffee shop products throughout the shift.
- Monitor product freshness and appearance, and follow or develop a production list to meet daily needs.
- Handle food safely and keep the work area clean, neat, and up to department standards.
- Check in products, put them away, and review invoices as needed.
- Operate the department register and process payments where applicable.
- Remove trash promptly and maintain a tidy department.
- Work with teammates to provide a smooth, positive customer experience.
- Comply with the company dress code, hygiene standards, and policies.
- Assist in other store areas and take on special projects as needed.
