Coffee Shop Barista
About The Position
Hy-Vee is seeking a Coffee Shop Barista to provide friendly customer service and prepare beverages in a store coffee shop. The role includes taking orders, helping customers locate products and answer questions, preparing and replenishing coffee shop products, monitoring freshness and appearance, and keeping the work area clean and stocked. The barista may also receive and put away products, review invoices, operate the department register, remove trash, assist in other store areas, and take on special projects. Training and support are provided; prior experience is not required. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen.
Requirements
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Basic math skills, including simple addition, subtraction, counting, and recording.
- Clear, friendly communication with customers and teammates.
- Ability to stay organized and keep pace in a busy coffee shop environment.
- Ability to frequently stand and walk throughout a shift.
- Ability to perform repetitive standing, walking, reaching, and bending associated with order fulfillment, POS transactions, and cleaning and sanitation duties.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen.

- Up to six months of similar or related work experience is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Greet customers warmly and provide helpful, positive service.
- Take customer orders at the counter and over the phone, help customers find products, and answer questions.
- Prepare and replenish coffee shop products throughout the shift.
- Monitor product freshness and appearance and follow or develop a production list.
- Handle food safely and maintain a clean, neat work area that meets department standards.
- Check in products, put products away, and review invoices as needed.
- Operate the department register and process payments where applicable.
- Remove trash promptly and maintain a tidy department.
- Work with teammates to provide a smooth customer experience.
- Follow Hy-Vee's dress code, hygiene standards, and company policies.
- Assist in other store areas and take on special projects as needed.
