About The Position

Protolabs is a leader in digital manufacturing seeking a CNC Machinist for its third shift. This role is responsible for creating prototype machined parts on CNC Milling machines, including programming using Mastercam and setting up machines for multiple part runs. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience as a CNC Milling or CNC lathe machine operator preferred, including setup and some programming understanding.
  • Knowledge of Machining in a prototype manufacturing setting or related experience and education.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite, SolidWorks, Mastercam, and CAD/CAM.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to read blueprints and use measuring instruments (e.g., protractors, calipers, height gauges).
  • Ability to interpret and explain written and statistical data.
  • Strong attention to detail and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage time and prioritize work effectively.
  • Highly developed teamwork skills.
  • Demonstrates a high degree of confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated ability to increase productivity and continuously improve methods, while being cost-sensitive.

Responsibilities

  • Setting up CNC milling or CNC lathe machines and running jobs, ensuring parts meet tight manufacturing requirements.
  • Preparing CAM files from CAD files, prints, and verbal instructions.
  • Ensuring quick turnaround of parts and accuracy within established guidelines.
  • Maintaining organization of jobs and material inventory.
  • Performing cleaning and general maintenance on milling or lathe machines and shop equipment.
  • Performing thorough part inspections and making decisions relative to part quality requirements.
  • Ensuring jobs are run in a timely manner for on-time delivery.
  • Adhering to all quality and safety standards.
  • Following all processes and procedures during the shift, escalating issues to the shift team lead/supervisor.
  • Supporting daily production by identifying solutions for chronic issues.
  • Maintaining a neat and organized production area.
  • Working in a safe manner consistent with company policies.
  • Completing operator PMs during the shift.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.
