About The Position

The Clinical Instructor/Clinical Assistant Professor position within the School of Nursing at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) may teach courses in the classroom, clinical (hospital and long term care), community settings, health assessment clinical, and/or clinical laboratory. This role may also involve teaching in virtual settings and across multiple clinical programs, including undergraduate, direct-entry master’s, and Doctor of Nursing Practice. UWM is a Carnegie R1 institution with a strong commitment to community engagement and student success, particularly for historically underrepresented groups in higher education. The position may involve teaching at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee or University of Wisconsin-Parkside (Racine/Kenosha) campuses, with clinical and community settings in southeastern Wisconsin. Opportunities exist for instructors with expertise in various nursing specialties, including Medical/Surgical, ICU/Emergency, Intermediate/Progressive/Step-Down, Pediatrics, Orthopedic Care, care of ventilated patients, Cardiac, Maternal and infant nursing, and OB.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in, or completion of, a Master of Nursing or Doctoral Nursing degree program.
  • Current unencumbered registered nurse (RN) license in WI or ability to become licensed as RN in WI (license must be valid by August 1, 2026).
  • Evidence of at least one year of clinical practice experience in nursing.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred 50% completion of Master of Nursing degree, or equivalent progression through a doctoral nursing program.
  • Master of Nursing degree.
  • Doctorate in Nursing Practice (DNP) degree and/or PhD in a related field.
  • Evidence of at least two years of clinical practice experience in nursing, ideally within the last five years.
  • Clinical and/or theory teaching experience in a nursing program.
  • Certified Nurse Educator (CNE).
  • Advanced practice registered nurse, nurse practitioner, or clinical nurse specialist.
  • Expertise particularly in one or more of the following areas: Medical/Surgical, ICU/Emergency, Intermediate/Progressive/Step-Down, Pediatrics, Orthopedic Care, Care of ventilated patients, Cardiac, Maternal and infant nursing, OB.
  • Additional expertise areas that may also be considered: Long-Term Care, Memory Care, Rehabilitation Units, and/or Skilled Nursing Facilities, Population/Community health, Health Care Systems, Gerontology, Mental Health, Pathophysiology and Pharmacology, Psychomotor skills and simulation.

Responsibilities

  • Teach courses in the classroom, clinical (hospital and long term care), community settings, health assessment clinical, and/or clinical laboratory for the School of Nursing.
  • Teach in undergraduate, direct-entry master’s, and Doctor of nursing practice programs.
  • Place students in clinical sites throughout Southeastern Wisconsin in proximity to campus locations.

Benefits

  • The target hiring range for this part time position is $54,000 - $56,500 on a 9-month basis at 100%.
  • Salary will be prorated based on the appointment length and FTE.
