About The Position

Northampton Family Medicine is an award-winning family practice located in Cooley Dickinson's multispecialty medical facility in Northampton, Massachusetts. The practice provides comprehensive primary care to patients of all ages, from newborns through adults. The Clinic/Practice Assistant supports the practice onsite and performs administrative and routine clerical duties under general supervision to help ensure smooth, efficient clinical service and practice operations. Duties may vary by department. This role does not require patient care.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
2–3 years of office experience.

Nice To Haves

Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA) credential from a recognized issuer.

Responsibilities

Perform routine administrative and clerical duties for a clinical service or physician practice office.
Schedule patient appointments and maintain appointment records.
Greet and assist patients.
Answer telephones, respond to routine inquiries, and schedule appointments.
File materials in patient folders and print appointment schedules.
Process patient billing forms and scan documents into patient medical records/LMR.
Request patient medical records and laboratory test results.
Open and distribute unit mail and faxes.
Type forms, records, schedules, and memos as directed.
Accept co-payments when required.
Handle, screen, and/or take messages related to prior authorizations, provider questions, prescription refills, and test results.
Act as a super user for scheduling, registration, and billing systems, and assist and train others in these areas.
Perform more complex or specialized functions, such as surgical scheduling or schedule changes and blocking, at an advanced competency level when required.
