About The Position

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is seeking a motivated Clerical Assistant 3 to join the Bureau of Motor Vehicles. This role is vital in ensuring the integrity of driver and vehicle services, acting as a link between PennDOT and the public. The position involves delivering exceptional service to motorists and ensuring they have the necessary documents to operate their vehicles safely. The work supports the processing of driver and vehicle applications by reviewing forms, resolving discrepancies, and assisting messengers with questions. The efforts of this role contribute to the accuracy of state records and provide guidance to customers needing support.

Requirements

  • One year as a Clerical Assistant 2 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration)
  • One year of moderately complex clerical experience
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training
  • Must be able to perform essential job functions
  • Submission of criminal history reports is required for a conditional offer of employment
  • Must undergo and pass a Fingerprint and Name-Based Criminal History Check prior to employment

Responsibilities

  • Examine motor vehicle and driver license applications and identify discrepancies
  • Determine needed documents and process corrected records to ensure accuracy
  • Explain Motor Vehicle Code requirements and answer questions about complex applications
  • Enter information for license and vehicle transactions while ensuring completeness and quality
  • Provide counter service, respond to inquiries, and communicate instructions clearly
  • Alert management to processing problems and recommend training needs
