About The Position

Block by Block employs Ambassadors to make public spaces friendlier, safer, and cleaner for the communities it serves. The Cleaning Ambassador works visibly at street level in an assigned zone, completing a variety of cleaning tasks while maintaining a positive, professional demeanor. The role also involves greeting and assisting pedestrians and visitors with directions or city information, and observing and reporting unwanted behavior or criminal activity. The schedule is Saturday and Sunday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Monday and Tuesday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Pay is $19.00 per hour, with weekly pay and access to pay advances before payday.

Requirements

Must have a high school diploma or GED.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Must be physically capable of walking or traversing continuously during an eight-hour shift, with two 15-minute breaks and a 30-minute lunch break.
Must be able to work outdoors in all conditions.
Must be able to speak, read, and write English to create basic reports.

Nice To Haves

Experience is preferred but not required; training will be provided.

Responsibilities

Complete a variety of cleaning tasks in the assigned zone while maintaining a positive, professional demeanor.
Acknowledge and engage pedestrians and visitors with a friendly greeting or smile, and provide directions and/or city information.
Remove litter and debris from streets, sidewalks, and alleys while moving through the zone with a rolling trash can containing supplies and tools.
Remove graffiti and posters from light posts, trash cans, news boxes, and similar public fixtures.
Pull weeds from tree wells, sidewalk cracks, and vacant lots.
Damp-wipe and straighten outdoor surfaces such as trash can lids and news boxes.
Watch for unwanted behaviors or criminal activity and report observations to Safety Ambassadors via two-way radios.
Complete basic daily reports of tasks completed.
