About The Position

Block-by-Block California is hiring a part-time Cleaning Ambassador to help make public spaces friendlier, safer, and cleaner. The role is highly visible at street level and involves carrying out a variety of cleaning tasks in an assigned zone while maintaining a positive, professional demeanor. Ambassadors also greet and engage pedestrians and visitors, provide directions or city information, and report unwanted behavior or suspected criminal activity to Safety Ambassadors using two-way radios.

The schedule is Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., Saturday from 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Flexibility is required for special events that may extend evening hours until 9:30–10:00 p.m. The position works outdoors in all conditions. Training is provided.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least 18 years of age.
• Successfully pass a background check and drug test.
• Ability to walk or traverse continuously during an eight-hour shift, with two 15-minute breaks and a 30-minute lunch break.
• Ability to work outdoors in all conditions.
• Ability to speak, read, and write English to create basic reports.
• Flexibility to work later evening hours for special events, up to 9:30–10:00 p.m.

Nice To Haves

• One year of cleaning experience preferred; training is provided.
• Mechanical experience, including operating a power washer.
• Pressure-washing experience.
• Commercial cleaning experience.

Responsibilities

• Clean streets, sidewalks, alleys, and other areas in an assigned zone.
• Remove litter while moving through the zone with a rolling trash can containing supplies and tools.
• Remove graffiti and posters from light posts, trash cans, news boxes, and other surfaces.
• Pull weeds from tree wells, sidewalk cracks, and vacant lots.
• Damp-wipe and straighten outdoor surfaces such as trash can lids and news boxes.
• Maintain a positive, professional demeanor and greet or engage pedestrians and visitors.
• Provide directions and/or city information to pedestrians and visitors.
• Watch for unwanted behaviors or criminal activity and report them to Safety Ambassadors via two-way radios.
• Complete basic daily reports of tasks performed.
