About The Position

The Cleaner performs a wide range of routine and specialized cleaning activities independently or as part of a work team. Assignments may involve light, medium, or heavy physical effort and may include cleaning offices, kitchens, common areas, hospitals, clean rooms, laboratories, residential facilities, and restrooms. The position is non-supervisory and may involve interacting with customers and notifying supervisors when further assistance is needed. This is a part-time position scheduled for 20 hours per week, Monday through Friday, from 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. It is an essential position, requiring the employee to report to or remain at work when classes are canceled and campus operations are limited during an emergency. The position is FLSA non-exempt and eligible for overtime provisions. The hiring rate is $17,928 per year at 0.50 FTE. The selected candidate must successfully clear a background investigation. The employer is unable to sponsor work visas for this position.

Requirements

Applicants must be physically able to perform medium to heavy physical labor.
Applicants must be able to follow and understand simple verbal and/or written instructions in English.

Responsibilities

Clean sinks, urinals, toilets, and other lavatory areas using hand-operated equipment and cleaning products.
Remove refuse from buildings.
Pick up hazardous articles found on floors, furniture, or equipment and place them in designated receptacles or appropriate locations.
Move furniture and equipment as needed for cleaning and care functions.
Wash floors, corridors, stairs, stairwells, walls, partitions, and interior windows using cleaning implements and equipment.
Use ladders or scaffolds to replace light bulbs and dust or wash light fixtures and high places, such as ceilings.
Interact appropriately with customers and notify supervisors when further assistance is needed.
Strip, vacuum, and wax floors and shampoo carpets using manual or mechanical equipment.
Dust assigned areas using hand-dusting equipment.
Polish wood and metal fixtures and equipment.
Occasionally remove snow and ice from outdoor walkways and staircases using manual or mechanical equipment.
Strip wax from furniture and clean and polish furniture.
Perform other duties or projects as assigned, as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.
