About The Position
Ryder is hiring a Class A CDL Truck Driver in University Park, Illinois, for regional solo deliveries to Midwestern states: Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, and Kansas. Drivers transport steel and metal products requiring load securement using 48- and 53-foot Conestoga, curtainside, and flatbed trailers. The position includes two nights out per week, with overnight stays in a Ryder-booked hotel or the sleeper truck. Drivers use day cab and sleeper tractors; automatic transmission restrictions can be accommodated. Ryder provides training on the equipment needed for the role and operates trucks that are 36 months old or newer, with 24/7 roadside maintenance and fueling at more than 800 nationwide maintenance locations. The schedule is Monday through Friday, with dispatch starting between 2:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. Drivers are paid weekly. Listed pay includes $0.68 per solo mile based on 1,800 miles per week, $24.48 per solo stop based on 26 stops per week, and $26.52 per diem per night based on two nights per week. The posting states that drivers on this account earn $1,850 or more weekly. Additional pay includes delay pay, a $4,000 sign-on bonus paid in installments, and a $4,000 loyalty bonus paid at six months and one year. Paid training is provided. Requirements
- Be at least 21 years of age.
- Pass a Ryder drug test.
- Pass a Ryder background and motor vehicle check, including drug and alcohol verification from previous employers for the last three years.
- Pass a DOT physical.
- Pass a Ryder road test.
- Provide the appropriate CDL and endorsements for the position.
- Have Class A verifiable experience in a tractor-trailer or comparable vehicle: 9 months within the past 3 years, or 2 years within the last 5 years, or 5 years within the last 10 years.
- Have 6 months of flatbed experience.
- Be able to follow written and/or oral instructions.
- Be able to read, interpret, and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies, and/or procedures.
Responsibilities
- Deliver freight solo on regional routes across the listed Midwestern states.
- Ensure compliance with applicable federal and state laws, regulations, agency rules, standards, and guidelines.
- Detect and eliminate or minimize safety hazards.
- Maintain accurate records and logs.
- Load and unload freight, or assist with loading and unloading when required by the customer.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
