About The Position

The Claims Specialist mitigates and manages claims expenses for Oak Harbor Freight Lines while helping ensure customer satisfaction when shipments are damaged or lost. The role receives, investigates, and processes cargo claims in accordance with company policy and federal statute, maintains accurate claims files, and supports customers and employees throughout the claims process. The position also assists with salvage and over, short, and damaged (OSD) requests.

Requirements

Experience in transportation (freight) and/or claims investigation.
Excellent communication skills.
Ability to think critically.
Ability to work successfully with internal and external customers to resolve issues and claims.
Strong PC proficiency and experience using Microsoft Office products.
High school diploma or GED/equivalent required.

Nice To Haves

Basic knowledge of NMFC rules and regulations in an LTL environment.
At least 1 year of claims experience in an LTL environment.
AS400 experience; preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

Receive, investigate, and process cargo claims according to Oak Harbor policy and federal statute.
Maintain accurate claims files.
Print and scan claims from the Claims Email Inbox.
Assist and educate internal and external customers about claims processes.
Answer claims-status calls and provide customer support throughout the claims process.
Assist with salvage and OSD requests.
