Civil Design Intern
About The Position
The Civil Design Intern will support real-world land-development projects at Thomas & Hutton while applying classroom knowledge in a practical setting. The intern will work with experienced mentors and collaborate with project managers, engineers, and design teams. The role provides hands-on experience with site development, utility and drainage design, permitting, project documentation, and drafting/modeling tools, while helping the intern build skills for a future full-time engineering career. The position is on-site Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The schedule may be flexible based on academic commitments. Sponsorship is not available.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
- Interest in land development and site design projects.
- Basic knowledge of AutoCAD.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to learn and contribute in a team-oriented setting.
Nice To Haves
- Exposure to Civil 3D.
Responsibilities
- Assist in preparing site-development plans for residential, commercial, and industrial projects.
- Support the design of water, sewer, and storm-drainage layouts and construction drawings.
- Assist with permit packages and coordination with regulatory agencies.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and design teams on daily project tasks.
- Support modeling and drafting efforts using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
- Assist with project documentation and organization to support scope, schedule, and quality goals.
