About The Position

The Childcare Specialist leads the daily operations of the Family Ministries Nursery, providing safe, structured, and nurturing care for children ages six months through kindergarten whose parents or guardians are at the Family Shelter. The role ensures a consistent, healing-centered environment where children are cared for with dignity, stability, and Christ-centered love while supporting the overall mission of City Union Mission.

Requirements

• Be a genuine believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, evidenced by a personal testimony and the ability to clearly communicate the Gospel when opportunities arise.
• Possess sound Biblical character and refrain from an immoral lifestyle that could undermine or disrupt one's testimony as a follower of Jesus Christ.
• Be a member in good standing of a recognized Protestant, evangelical church.
• Agree to and abide within the City Union Mission faith statement.
• Be genuinely committed to serving the poor and homeless, as expressed in the City Union Mission mission statement.
• Be sober-minded and free from the influence of alcoholic beverages, illegal drugs, or any substance that could cloud judgment or distract from a Christian-principled ministry.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe, clean, and developmentally appropriate environment with consistent supervision and clear routines.
• Plan and manage nursery schedules, including structured activities, rest times, and transitions throughout the day.
• Order, organize, and maintain nursery supplies, materials, and equipment.
• Direct, supervise, and support staff, volunteers, and program participants assigned to the nursery.
• Fill in for other Center roles as needed.
