About The Position

The Childcare Specialist leads the daily operations of City Union Mission’s Family Ministries Nursery, caring for children from six months through kindergarten whose parents or guardians are staying at the Family Shelter. The role provides a safe, structured, nurturing, and healing-centered environment where children are treated with dignity and stability and receive Christ-centered care, while supporting the mission of City Union Mission.

Requirements

• Be a genuine believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, evidenced by a personal testimony and the ability to clearly communicate the Gospel when opportunities arise.
• Possess sound Biblical character and refrain from an immoral lifestyle that could undermine or disrupt one’s testimony as a follower of Jesus Christ.
• Be a member in good standing of a recognized Protestant, evangelical church.
• Agree to and abide by the City Union Mission faith statement.
• Be genuinely committed to serving poor and homeless people, as expressed in City Union Mission’s mission statement.
• Be sober-minded and free from the influence of alcoholic beverages, illegal drugs, or any substance that could cloud judgment or distract from Christian-principled ministry.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe, clean, developmentally appropriate environment through consistent supervision and clear routines.
• Plan and manage nursery schedules, including structured activities, rest times, and transitions throughout the day.
• Order, organize, and maintain nursery supplies, materials, and equipment.
• Direct, supervise, and support staff, volunteers, and program participants assigned to the nursery.
• Fill in for other Center roles as needed.
