About The Position

Volunteers of America–Greater New York is seeking a Childcare & Recreation Manager to oversee childcare and recreation services at Bushwick Family Residence, a transitional family shelter in Brooklyn, New York. The manager supervises Assistant Teachers and Recreation Assistants and serves as a liaison with funders and regulatory agencies. The position manages the instructional environment and student programming, supporting learning, growth, and developmental progress in coordination with colleagues and families.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree.
Four years of work experience with a similar population, including two years in a supervisory capacity, or a satisfactory combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

Manage the instructional environment in a manner that fosters learning and growth.
Supervise classroom aides and assigned staff.
Direct daily classroom activities, prepare daily activity schedules, and coordinate with other disciplines.
Evaluate student progress on an ongoing basis and maintain necessary records.
Write annual goals, behavioral objectives, and intervention strategies for students.
Assess students’ developmental functioning and learning skills across all areas at regularly planned intervals.
Consult and interface with colleagues on the team regarding all phases of student programming.
Contact parents, support the transition of instruction to the home, and ensure parent partnership.
Make home visits and invite parents for school visits.
Maintain a daily lesson plan book showing instruction in all content areas.
Oversee childcare and recreation services and liaise with funders and regulatory agencies.
