Child Support Agent II - Enforcement Unit

Nash County•Nashville, NC
•Onsite

About The Position

The Child Support Agent II works in the Child Support Unit, which locates non-custodial parents, establishes paternity and support or medical orders, enforces existing orders, and collects and distributes child support in IV-D cases. The Agent investigates and enforces new paternity and support orders, manages the financial accounting of support orders, monitors cases for possible modifications, and prepares, investigates, and negotiates cases. The role exercises considerable independent judgment in applying relevant rules, regulations, and laws. Activities requiring attorney approval are reviewed by the IV-D Attorney. The position is full-time, with a standard schedule of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, totaling 40 hours per week. Flexibility and overtime may be needed to meet court schedules and workload demands; compensatory time is given when work extends beyond scheduled hours. The Agent is trained in program policies, procedures, and the ACTS system, and is expected to manage a caseload independently after training. Work is performed in a county social services agency in the County Administration Building, where staff have private offices to protect case confidentiality. The role involves frequent contact with clients and non-custodial parents, court personnel, attorneys, sheriff’s departments, employers, insurers, and public agencies. Because child support matters can be emotionally distressing, the Agent must manage interviews and help defuse potentially volatile situations. The employee may also work in emergency shelters or perform disaster-related tasks.
