About The Position

Pavilion is seeking a Chief Marketing Officer to lead its marketing function and drive growth across new membership bookings, renewals, and new products. Pavilion serves global go-to-market professionals through membership, education, events, and community. Its primary commercial measure is bookings: the cash a customer pays after discounts, whether for a new membership or renewal. The CMO will oversee product marketing, lifecycle marketing, performance marketing, digital and web experience (brand and content), and sales enablement, including direct outreach and final-stage conversion. As a member of executive leadership, the CMO will help set business priorities and hold peers accountable for related decisions and commitments. This is a player-coach role requiring strategic leadership as well as hands-on execution in support of a lean team. The CMO will own marketing strategy, budget, and performance against agreed targets; oversee acquisition, retention, product positioning, B2B marketing, sales enablement, brand, and communications; and establish reporting that distinguishes cash collected from pipeline or unpaid commitments. The role also sets priorities for responsible use of AI and automated workflows, with clear ownership and measurable outcomes. Success in the first 90 days includes assessing bookings across acquisition, renewals, course-led membership purchases, and B2B; agreeing targets, priorities, budget, and decision responsibilities; establishing team responsibilities and operating rhythms; addressing immediate conversion and renewal gaps; and beginning measured AI and process improvements. In the first year, success means delivering against bookings targets, improving acquisition efficiency and renewal performance, clarifying positioning and messaging, developing a confident team with clear ownership, strengthening executive follow-through, and demonstrating returns from AI and workflow improvements.

Requirements

  • Senior marketing leadership experience with responsibility for strategy, budgets, and commercial results, including meaningful experience in membership, community, or subscription businesses.
  • A record of setting priorities with executive leadership, constructively challenging assumptions, and securing decisions and resources needed to deliver goals.
  • Experience building team confidence and developing managers, with concrete examples of improvements in team performance and ways of working.
  • Demonstrated performance marketing expertise, including direct experience building and running paid, SEO, or other acquisition programs and managing agencies or contractors.
  • Proven success in product marketing and lifecycle marketing, including positioning, launch planning, and renewal programs.
  • Strong content and communications judgment.
  • Fluency in marketing analytics, cash bookings, and budget management.
  • Practical experience building or deploying AI agents and marketing workflows, and ability to explain tools used and their measurable impact.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with event marketing and community storytelling in a global business serving GTM professionals.

Responsibilities

  • Translate business goals into marketing priorities, initiatives, metrics, and a resourcing plan, and align with executive leadership on priority offerings and audiences.
  • Hold executive peers accountable for agreed goals and commitments, surface dependencies and conflicting requests, and secure decisions when priorities exceed team capacity.
  • Build team confidence and motivation through clear direction, realistic workloads, useful feedback, recognition, and an environment that welcomes ideas and questions assumptions.
  • Develop leaders across product marketing, lifecycle, performance marketing, and sales enablement; define responsibilities and recommend hiring or agency support as needed.
  • Establish regular performance reviews with leadership, Finance, and RevOps, maintaining a shared definition of bookings and dashboards that distinguish cash collected from pipeline and unpaid commitments.
  • Own the marketing plan and budget against agreed targets, including contributions from new-member acquisition, renewals, and B2B efforts.
  • Lead performance marketing across paid media, SEO and AEO, and event acquisition; evaluate strategy and results and allocate spend using cash bookings, acquisition cost, retention, and payback.
  • Assess the effects of pricing and discounts on conversion and booking value; test channels with clear investment criteria and a geographic strategy aligned with Pavilion’s Chapter model.
  • Set priorities for AI agents and automated workflows in content production, segmentation, reporting, and lead scoring; establish responsible use, ownership, review, and measures of impact.
  • Lead lifecycle programs to improve activation, engagement, upgrades, and renewal bookings using member behavior and cohort performance.
  • Partner with Member Success and Program Managers on onboarding, nurture, and milestone communications, and establish clear ownership for renewal outreach and member handoffs.
  • Build referral, upgrade, and win-back programs; use member feedback to address barriers to continued membership; own lead nurture and conversion-focused lifecycle flows.
  • Lead product marketing, including growth product/CRO, across Pavilion offerings; define audiences, positioning, and reasons to buy or renew.
  • Clarify how membership, education, events, and team solutions relate so prospective customers understand the value and fit of each offering.
  • Develop go-to-market plans for courses sold standalone and as part of membership, coordinating launch timing and transition into the member experience with Learn.
  • Own B2B marketing strategy and execution for Learn courses sold in bulk, including buyer messaging, demand generation, and support for team and company purchases; align with Sales on pipeline quality and cash-booking conversion.
  • Lead the sales enablement team responsible for direct follow-up with prospective members in the final stage of their decision, including calls and other outreach.
  • Set lead prioritization, follow-up standards, and handoffs; equip the team with messaging, member proof points, and responses to common objections.
  • Manage Synapsa and 1Mind playbooks and responses to ensure brand consistency and quality control.
  • Track conversion to paid bookings and use findings to improve campaigns and outreach; agree pricing and discount guardrails with leadership and Finance.
  • Lead Pavilion’s brand presence across web, social, events, and content, ensuring consistent messaging and identity around the value of its offerings.
  • Oversee thought leadership, PR, and storytelling grounded in member outcomes; work with Learn and Community to surface member success and insights.
  • Establish the role of community content and executive thought leadership, including Sam’s personal brand, within the broader marketing strategy.

  • Competitive salary and performance bonus tied primarily to agreed bookings targets.
  • Stock options in a profitable, mission-driven company.
  • Comprehensive health benefits.
  • Professional development budget.
  • Flexible, remote-friendly work environment.
  • Access to Pavilion membership and education.
