Chief Marketing Officer (CMO)

HUD•San Francisco, CA
•$160,000 - $245,000•Onsite

About The Position

HUD is hiring a hands-on Chief Marketing Officer to build awareness and drive growth for its AI data marketplace and platform. The role will help frontier labs understand and buy what HUD enables, attract strong data vendors to the marketplace, and make HUD appealing to talented prospective employees. The CMO will shape HUD’s positioning and execute marketing initiatives including case studies, partnerships, product and funding announcements, founder content, and events. Working closely with the founders and research, product, and go-to-market teams, the CMO will identify priorities, deliver campaigns, and learn from results. The role calls for active engagement in the AI community, technical fluency to communicate credibly with researchers and engineers, and the ability to turn technical ideas into clear, persuasive marketing that generates measurable interest and commercial opportunities. This is a full-time, in-person role based only in HUD’s San Francisco office. HUD has approximately 25 team members, with some remote employees. Applications are rolling, and the selection process includes two technical interviews and a two-to-three-day work trial. HUD supports relocation and visas for strong full-time candidates moving to the US or Singapore.

Requirements

  • Conviction in HUD’s mission and a specific point of view on why open infrastructure for AI data matters.
  • Active involvement in the AI community through work, projects, writing, events, or relationships, and an understanding of what earns attention and trust among researchers and builders.
  • Technical fluency sufficient to engage with AI researchers and engineers, learn HUD’s products firsthand, and discuss agents, RL environments, evaluations, and post-training substantively.
  • A track record of turning marketing, launches, content, or community programs into measurable adoption, qualified demand, or commercial opportunities for a technical product.
  • Strong writing and positioning judgment, including the ability to make technical ideas clear, accurate, and persuasive to practitioners and buyers.
  • Ability to own work from an ambiguous brief through execution and follow-up.
  • Applicants should provide one or two examples of work they personally drove, including their contribution and results.

Nice To Haves

  • Marketing, product marketing, growth, or community experience at an AI/ML, developer tools, infrastructure, or data company.
  • Familiarity with how frontier labs source data, evaluate models, and approach post-training.
  • Relationships with AI researchers, technical buyers, data vendors, or relevant community organizers.
  • Experience running technical events or partnership campaigns, supporting founders’ public communications, or using analytics and AI tools to improve marketing execution.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and refine HUD’s positioning for frontier-lab buyers and data vendors, grounding the story in their needs and work.
  • Own marketing execution for case studies, partnerships, product launches, and company announcements, coordinating contributors, materials, channels, and follow-through.
  • Create and distribute content across HUD’s website, X, LinkedIn, and other relevant channels, working with technical experts and writing support to communicate product capabilities, research, and customer results.
  • Build relationships in the AI community and plan and run events, activations, and collaborations that reach researchers, buyers, and data vendors.
  • Help founders and the team communicate a clear point of view publicly.
  • Connect marketing to growth by testing messages and channels, tracking qualified buyer conversations and vendor interest through to opportunities and participation, and focusing time and budget on what works.
  • Make HUD’s work and mission visible to potential teammates.
