About The Position

The Chalk Artist designs and creates chalkboard signs for promotions, store literature, signage, hand-drawn flyers, and shelf signs. The role works with Store Operations Management to help ensure department and store objectives are met or exceeded, as communicated by the Advertisement and Merchandising teams. This is an hourly, non-exempt position reporting to the Store Director.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Previous experience as a sign maker, assistant sign maker, or equivalent.
Strong hand lettering, illustration, and graphic design skills.
Superior spelling skills.
Ability to perform simple math operations.
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods; bend and stoop; climb ladders; bend and twist the neck and waist; reach above and below the shoulders; and squat.
Ability to occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.
Repetitive use of hands for grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine manipulation.
Close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Responsibilities

Maintain and produce handwritten and hand-drawn signage for all departments in accordance with company standards.
Maintain visual quality and consistency across all departments.
Conduct daily store walks through all departments to check sign quality and appearance, replacing signs as needed.
Illustrate chalkboards for display in departments.
Maintain inventory of necessary supplies and equipment.
Use courteous and proper etiquette when answering phones and pages.
Maintain working knowledge of and apply merchandising expectations within the department.
