About The Position

The Certified Nursing Assistant supports patient care in the Hematology Oncology department at the Hayworth Cancer Center, which provides hematology, oncology, infusion, and supportive care services. The role performs patient care, nursing tasks, and clerical duties, including serving as a unit receptionist and providing information to patients, families, visitors, and staff. The CNA also assists the Licensed Nurse as needed in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Completion of a North Carolina State Approved Nurse Aide I course.
American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Responsibilities

Provide direct patient care, maintain a safe environment, and assist with activities of daily living.
Relay messages, answer phones, and maintain records.
Record vital signs, fluid intake and output, and patient data; collect specimens.
Prepare and assist with patient meals and document dietary assistance.
Assist with admissions, transfers, and discharges, and provide mobility support.
Maintain unit cleanliness, manage supplies and equipment, and inspect patient charts.
Update, assemble, and maintain patient charts and assist with record requests.
Respond promptly to call lights.
Answer phones professionally and direct physician calls to nurses.
Greet visitors, provide customer service, and assist with patient needs.
Assess unit supply needs, maintain inventory, and deliver requisitions and specimens.
Assist with patient care procedures, orientation, and unit coordination.
Attend unit meetings and continuing education programs.
Maintain a professional demeanor and follow department rules and standards.
Perform other assigned tasks as directed by management.
