About The Position

The Certified Medical Assistant functions as an assistant to the physician in direct and indirect patient care, laboratory procedures, charging, scribing, and medical records. The role serves as a real-time documenter of physician services during patient encounters, entering information into the EHR under the assistant’s own login. It combines clinical support, patient communication, documentation, office organization, and administrative duties while following clinic policies, infection-control practices, OSHA requirements, and Springfield Clinic’s conduct and ethics standards. The assistant accompanies physicians during visits, documents dictated information and findings, rooms patients, gathers histories and vital signs, prepares patients for examinations, and provides care or instructions under the direction of a physician, NP, or PA. The position also supports scheduling, calls, referrals, supplies, medical records, patient and family education, and other duties as assigned.
