Center Medical Director (Physician Assisant / Nurse Practitioner)
About The Position
Carbon Health is seeking a Full-Time Center Medical Director (CMD) for their Sacramento urgent care team. This role is ideal for an experienced Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner who wants to blend clinical practice with leadership. The CMD will partner with the Center Manager and Area Medical Director to build a high-performing, collaborative clinical team, focusing on patient care, quality, safety, and patient experience. The position involves approximately 30 hours per week of direct patient care, allowing for continued clinical practice while developing leadership skills. The CMD will mentor providers, support clinical development, participate in hiring and onboarding, provide feedback, and foster a supportive environment for clinicians. Leadership support will be provided by a Clinic Manager and Area Medical Director for operations, staffing, development, quality improvement, and escalation management. The role offers the chance to build a strong clinical team and expand access to high-quality urgent care in the Sacramento community.
Requirements
- Physician Assistant: Master's or doctoral degree from an accredited PA program and current national certification.
- Nurse Practitioner: Current RN and NP licensure and national certification.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in urgent care, emergency medicine, or a similar clinical setting.
- Minimum 1 year of leadership experience in a healthcare setting.
- Active and unrestricted California medical license.
- BLS certification.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to build trusting relationships and collaborate effectively across clinical and operational teams.
- Commitment to clinical excellence, patient safety, and a positive patient experience.
- DOT certification must be obtained prior to your start date.
Responsibilities
- Provide evidence-based, compassionate urgent care to patients 6 months and up.
- Diagnose and treat a broad range of acute and chronic conditions appropriate for an urgent care setting.
- Maintain high standards of clinical quality, safety, and patient experience.
- Support and promote evidence-based clinical practices across the team.
- Participate in clinical quality improvement initiatives and special projects.
- Serve as the clinical leader for your assigned urgent care center.
- Mentor, coach, and develop clinicians to support their clinical growth and success.
- Participate in clinician interviews, onboarding, and ongoing development.
- Conduct regular chart reviews and clinical performance evaluations.
- Identify educational opportunities and facilitate a culture of continuous learning.
- Address clinical concerns and patient or staff complaints involving the clinical team.
- Lead regular clinical team meetings and foster open, respectful communication.
- Partner with clinicians and operational leaders to identify and resolve barriers to high-quality care.
- Promote a culture focused on clinical excellence, patient safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
- Partner with the Center Manager to maintain a safe, efficient, and collaborative clinic environment.
- Collaborate with operational and medical leadership on staffing, scheduling, patient access, and clinic performance.
- Use clinical and operational data to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Support strategies that improve patient access, quality, efficiency, and patient experience.
- Participate in community and market initiatives that support clinic growth and engagement.
