About The Position

As a Cemetery Groundskeeper, you will help maintain the serene and respectful environment of Green Lawn Cemetery. The role involves keeping the grounds clean, well-kept, and welcoming to visitors and families through landscaping, general maintenance, grave care, floral display upkeep, headstone maintenance, and litter removal. The groundskeeper also assists visitors courteously and interacts with grieving families with empathy and sensitivity.

Requirements

• Must hold a valid driver's license or have reliable transportation; a valid driver's license is preferred.
• Able to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy objects, operating grounds maintenance equipment, and working outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Possess attention to detail to keep the grounds immaculate and maintain headstones and markers properly.
• Ability to develop effective working relationships with the supervisor, coworkers, and families.
• Follow safety protocols and take precautions when operating equipment.
• Display empathy and understanding when interacting with grieving families and visitors, maintaining a respectful and compassionate demeanor.
• Be punctual and dependable, and adhere to the work schedule.

Nice To Haves

• Familiarity with landscaping equipment and techniques, including mowing, trimming, and planting.

Responsibilities

• Mow, trim, and edge grass; prune and plant trees and shrubs; and maintain sod and flowers.
• Clear walkways, driveways, and parking lots.
• Install and maintain sprinkler systems and perform general maintenance repairs and installations.
• Dig and fill graves as needed, following established procedures and working compassionately.
• Arrange and maintain floral displays, wreaths, and other memorial decorations, replacing them as needed.
• Clean and repair headstones and grave markers to preserve their integrity and readability.
• Collect and dispose of litter and debris throughout the cemetery.
• Provide visitors with directions, information, and assistance, and offer empathy and support to grieving families.
