Cemetery Groundskeeper
About The Position
The Cemetery Groundskeeper is responsible for the care, maintenance, and repair of cemetery property, as well as helping ensure the safety and security of employees and visitors. The role requires a reliable, detail-oriented person who provides a high level of service to customers. Duties include grounds and landscape upkeep, equipment maintenance, funeral-service functions, safe machinery operation, cemetery vault and memorial installation, general maintenance, and snow removal where applicable. The Groundskeeper also performs other duties assigned by the Grounds Superintendent. The position calls for compassion, customer focus, and adherence to strong ethical values. It requires a high school equivalency, at least two years of maintenance or related experience, the ability to operate maintenance equipment and machinery, and a valid state driver’s license. The role requires lifting up to 80 pounds and availability for some holidays, evenings, and weekends as needed.
Requirements
- High school equivalency required.
- At least 2 years of experience in maintenance or a related field.
- Ability to operate maintenance equipment and machinery.
- Ability to read and execute memos and directives from a supervisor and/or management.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks with interruptions.
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to lift up to 80 pounds.
- Valid state driver’s license required.
- Availability to work some holidays, evenings, and weekends as needed.
- Demonstrates compassion, customer focus, and ethical values.
Responsibilities
- Perform landscape maintenance, including weed-whacking and lawn mowing.
- Maintain equipment.
- Perform functions related to funeral services.
- Operate machinery safely and appropriately.
- Install or assist with installing cemetery vaults.
- Install headstones or memorials as needed.
- Perform day-to-day general maintenance duties.
- Handle snow removal, if applicable.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Grounds Superintendent.
