About The Position
Universal Dedicated of Detroit is seeking reliable CDL-A drivers for local shuttle routes based in Detroit, Michigan. This union position offers steady freight, consistent schedules, and daily home time. Drivers transport materials between terminals and customer locations and follow schedules based on customer production needs. The work involves touch freight limited to chaining and strapping loads; drivers do not load or unload freight. Routes are bid by seniority every six months. Recent graduates must complete the Train-to-Train (T2T) program; experienced drivers may be exempt based on prior experience.
Requirements
- Valid Class A CDL.
- At least 21 years of age.
- Clean driving record with a strong safety history.
- Ability to meet DOT requirements.
- Strong communication and time management skills.
- Recent graduates must complete the T2T (Train-to-Train) program; experienced drivers may be exempt based on prior experience.
Responsibilities
- Safely transport materials between terminal and customer locations.
- Follow delivery schedules based on customer production needs.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections.
- Maintain DOT compliance at all times.
- Communicate with dispatch and operations teams.
- Ensure safe and efficient operation of equipment.
- Chain and strap loads as required; loading and unloading are not part of the work.
