This entry-level regional truck-driving role serves the Mahoning Valley. Drivers haul freight on out-and-back routes that start and end in Ohio, with home time every weekend for their reset. The work includes drop-and-hook, preloaded, and some live-load and unload freight. Drivers work with a dedicated planner familiar with the area and may receive day, night, or rotating dispatches. Cold-weather driving is part of the region. Drivers average about 1,800 miles per week and earn an average weekly gross of $1,200 to $1,400. Pay is $850 per week during training, followed by a guarantee of at least $1,000 per week for the first three months solo. Mileage pay starts at $0.56 per mile, increases to $0.59 at six months and $0.60 after one year, with additional pay for short loads and stops. New drivers train with a mentor for four to six weeks before receiving an assigned truck, which is about 1.5 years old on average. The hiring process begins with a recruiter reviewing the applicant’s license and driving record. Orientation lasts up to two days; a hotel is covered, the bus ticket is reimbursed, and $300 is paid once hired. Medical, dental, and vision coverage, a 401(k), a stock purchase plan, paid vacation, and access to a free online degree for the driver and one family member begin after 30 days.
