An entry-level CDL-A driving role serving Midwest regional routes, primarily within about 400 miles of home. Routes travel through Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, and Illinois. Drivers handle drop-and-hook, preloaded, and some live-load and unload freight, with day and night dispatches and a reset at home each weekend. New drivers receive 4 to 6 weeks of paid mentor training at $900 per week. After training, drivers receive an assigned truck averaging about 1.5 years old. Weekly pay averages $1,000 to $1,500 gross, with a $1,000 weekly guarantee during the first three months of solo driving. Drivers typically cover 1,600 to 2,000 miles per week, with additional stop pay and extra pay on loads under 51 miles. The hiring process begins with a recruiter reviewing the applicant’s license and record. Orientation takes place near Detroit and lasts no more than two days; a hotel is covered, a bus ticket is reimbursed, and $300 is paid once hired. Applicants must live within 100 miles of the Detroit terminal. Medical, dental, and vision coverage, a 401(k), a stock purchase plan, paid vacation, and access to a free online degree for the driver and one family member begin after 30 days.
