Learn on the job under the supervision of a journeyman. Apprentices begin by learning core construction skills that provide a foundation of safety and productivity across industry sectors. These include construction site safety orientation; construction math; hand and power tools; construction drawings; basic rigging and material handling; communication and employability skills; confined-space awareness; fall protection; and First Aid/CPR/AED. After successfully completing core skills, apprentices progress to increased industry knowledge in one or more areas of concentration: industrial, wind, and solar construction. The role involves attending formal and on-the-job training, completing related homework and evaluations, keeping a training activity log, and learning and performing general construction labor. Apprentices work under the direction of a journeyman or supervisor, may assist other craft workers, and must follow company, legal, health, and safety requirements. The role requires travel and work away from the home base area for the entire apprenticeship program.
