About The Position

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is one of the largest, most complex agencies in the state, with approximately 17,000 employees. It is responsible for ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of all North Carolinians, providing human service needs for special populations including individuals who are deaf, blind, developmentally disabled, and mentally ill, and helping poor North Carolinians achieve economic independence. The DHHS Division of Employment and Independence for People with Disabilities (EIPD) promotes employment and independence for people with disabilities through customer partnership and community leadership, helping them achieve goals for competitive employment and more independent living. This Casework Technician position involves interviewing consumers, gathering diagnostic data, assisting counselors with eligibility determination and service planning, inputting casework data, preparing documents, monitoring consumer progress, working with community partners, and documenting service delivery.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of related administrative experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Proficiency in performing routine administrative and office support functions, such as data entry, document preparation, scheduling, and filing, with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide effective front-line service to the public, including responding to inquiries, resolving concerns, and maintaining professionalism in diverse and fast-paced environments.

Responsibilities

  • Interviewing consumers and gathering diagnostic data to assist counselor with determining eligibility and required rehabilitation/independent living services.
  • Assist with develop a written plan of services in conjunction with the consumer, parent and/or guardian; inputting casework data into relevant applications throughout the rehabilitation process.
  • Preparing documents including authorizations and correspondences as needed; and completing all related administrative tasks in tandem with the processing assistant
  • Monitor the consumer's progress throughout the service delivery process
  • Work directly with community partners in order to assist individuals with disabilities in becoming suitably employed
  • Document service delivery and case progress in the case management system as required by agency policy
