About The Position

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is one of the largest, most complex agencies in the state, and has approximately 17,000 employees. It is responsible for ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of all North Carolinians, providing human service needs for special populations including individuals who are deaf, blind, developmentally disabled, and mentally ill, and helping poor North Carolinians achieve economic independence. This position serves as a Casework Technician for the Goldsboro office supporting the caseloads. The primary purpose of this position is to provide technical and para-professional support to managerial, supervisory, and professional staff located in this office for assisting persons with disabilities to achieve identified goals. The DHHS Division of Employment and Independence for People with Disabilities (EIPD) promotes employment and independence for people with disabilities through customer partnership and community leadership. EIPD helps people with disabilities achieve their goals for competitive employment and more independent living in communities statewide.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of related administrative experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated experience performing routine office support functions
  • Previous experience in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with staff members and the public

Responsibilities

  • Interviewing consumers and gathering diagnostic reports to assist counselors with determining eligibility and developing individualized plans for employment
  • Documenting casework and provisions of substantial services
  • Providing follow-up with consumers, employers, vendors and other agency personnel as needed
  • Provide support as designated by the counselor, working with community employers using the dual customer approach to place consumers with disabilities in appropriate jobs for successful outcomes
  • Inputting casework data into relevant applications throughout the rehabilitation process
  • Preparing documents including authorizations, processing billing for payment and correspondences as needed and completing all related administrative tasks
  • Travel to local schools in support of the school caseload
